About First Bite
What this site is
First Bite is a free, plain-language reference for parents and caregivers deciding whether and how to serve common foods to babies and toddlers: 66 food profiles with age-by-age serving guidance, choking-risk notes, allergen notes and a private tried-food tracker. There is no account, no paywall and nothing uploaded — the tracker lives entirely in your own browser.
How the content is made
Our editorial rules, in order of priority:
- Conservative by design. When public guidance differs between countries or years, we publish the more cautious of the agreed positions. Prohibitions (honey before 12 months, whole nuts before age 5, and others) are stated flatly and never softened for readability.
- Grounded in public guidance. Every food page cites at least two public sources, drawn from NHS Start4Life and NHS weaning pages, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ HealthyChildren.org, and the CDC’s infant and toddler nutrition pages. We write only the common ground among these references — the parts a reasonable reader could verify by reading them side by side.
- No manufactured authority. We do not employ physicians, do not display medical credentials, and do not claim institutional review. The site’s trust model is transparency: check our citations against your own pediatrician’s advice.
- Language discipline. We avoid absolute safety claims and treatment language. Risk statements pair the hazard with the practical alternative. Emergency guidance points to professional care, never to self-treatment.
Updates and scope
The database covers 66 widely available foods including East-Asian staples that general Western references often skip (bok choy, shiitake, Chinese yam, hairtail, sticky rice products). We expand coverage over time and re-check pages when the underlying public guidance changes. Each page shows its own source list.
Limits
This is general guidance, not medical advice. It cannot account for prematurity, allergies, conditions, or your child’s specific development — those belong with your pediatrician. See our medical disclaimer.

Corrections are welcome and taken seriously — a factual error on a feeding-safety page is the worst bug this site could ship. Reach the site family via the gameai.store contact page.
