How to serve, by age
6 mo+
Cook whole scallion stalks and ginger slices in the pot, then fish them out — aroma without debris. Minced garlic and chopped mild herbs go in cooked through.
1 yr+
Follow family seasoning. Hot irritants — raw garlic by the fistful, chili, Sichuan peppercorn — still go slowly.
Choking risk: Low
Fish out whole scallion knots and large ginger slices; fine minced aromatics cooked soft are not a concern.
If choking ever happens: act immediately — call emergency services (911 in the US) and seek emergency care. Do not wait.
Allergens
Scallion, Ginger & Garlic is not among the eight most common food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish). Any food can cause a reaction in principle — introduce new foods one at a time, during the day, and watch your baby.
Common questions
- Should five-spice powder and star anise be avoided?
- Mild whole spices carry no prohibition in moderate amounts. What to control is salt, sugar and heavy heat.
Practical tips
- A few drops of lemon juice mellow fishiness — once lemon is introduced and accepted.
- Cinnamon or basil lifts pumpkin and apple purées.
