How to serve, by age
6–8 mo
Steam lean beef and blend long with liquid until completely smooth; stir into cereal or congee.
9–11 mo
Beef mince, beef meatballs (crumbled), soft beef-paste patties.
12 mo+
Small pieces braised until very soft.
Choking risk: Moderate
Beef fibers are coarse and firm — pieces must braise to softness. If your baby spits out a chewy piece, that is protective; never push it back down.
If choking ever happens: act immediately — call emergency services (911 in the US) and seek emergency care. Do not wait.
Allergens
Beef is not among the eight most common food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish). Any food can cause a reaction in principle — introduce new foods one at a time, during the day, and watch your baby.
Common questions
- How often per week?
- A few servings of red meat a week is a common iron pattern in infancy; exact frequency and amounts belong with your pediatrician.
Practical tips
- Cut across the grain before blending — it breaks down far finer.
- Beef purée cooked with tomato purée: sweet-sour covers the smell.
